Dhaka, Bangladesh: The Burmese Minister for Health, Dr .Kyaw Myint returned to the country on August 28, after attending the 24th Health Ministers' meeting of WHO SEA Regional Countries held in Dhaka of Bangladesh on August 20 and 21 and the

59th Regional Committee meeting from August 22 to 25, according to official reports. On August 20, the Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia attended the opening ceremony of both meetings at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel, the report further said. 

All the participants reviewed the strategy for malaria control, prevention against bird flu, malaria, TB and AIDS diseases, fund raising tasks and expertise, and assistance provided to tsunami-hit countries.  

At the meeting, the Minister for Health Dr Kyaw Myint said that preventive measures against malaria were taken systematically in Burma.  

The WHO, UNICEF, local and international social organizations cooperating with the Ministry of Health participated in drawing up preventive measures against malaria. The National Strategic Plan for Prevention and Control of Avian Influenza, Human Influenza Pandemic Preparedness and Response is being implemented in thecountry.Furthermore, committees at different levels were set up to provide rehabilitation and health care services to the people in the natural disaster-hit regions. 

On August 21, they approved the Dhaka Declaration on Strengthening Health Workforce in the Countries of SEA Region. 

On August 22, the Dr Kyaw Myint and his team attended the 59th Regional Committee Meeting. 

On August 24 they held discussions on enhancement of human resources in the health sector, development of health information system, duties and functions assigned to SEA countries for participating in the 68th WHO Conference, and preparations for topics on health tasks to be discussed at the conference, the report said.  

On August 25, the 59th Regional Committee Meeting was concluded. Minister Dr Kyaw Myint called on Minister for Health Dr Lyonpo, Dr Jigmi Singay of Bhutan and WHO SEA Regional Director Dr Samle Plianbangchang separately.
