Rohingya girl missing from refugee camp
The girl has been identified as Anwara Begum (14), daughter of Jalal Ahmed, MRC No. 8784, Block- B and Shed No. 41/3 of the Nayapara refugee camp, Cox's Bazaar district, Bangladesh.
On August 18, at about 10 a.m. Anwar Begum accompanied by Khaleda Begum (35), daughter of Minto and her brother Md. Ismail from the nearby village "Mosoni" went out of the camp without the knowledge of her parents. Since then she has been missing.
Refugees believe that the girl was persuaded by Khaleda Begum and her brother Md Ismail to accompany them with false promises. They probably took her along to sell to a brothel or to human traffickers or she went out from camp to marry someone.
On August 19, the parents of the girl drew the attention of the Camp-in-Charge and the UNHCR and lodged a complaint against Khaleda Begum and her brother. But, the Camp-in-Charge transferred the case to the camp police officer to inquire and take necessary action. But, the police officer, in the evening of August 19, called the culprits and released them after two hours taking bribes without the knowledge of the camp Camp-in-Charge, according to refugees.
It is not known, what kind of action will be taken by UNHCR, said a Majee from the camp on condition of anonymity.
"I am surprised that the authorities did not take any action against the culprits, who the refugees know are guilty," said another Majee.
Not satisfied the parents and the relatives of the victim are trying to raise the mater again with the authorities, said a close relative of the victim.
