Teknaf, Bangladesh: Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) arrested two Bangladeshi nationals on April 8, while they were buying Yaba tablets from their local agent in northern Maungdaw Town, Arakan State, Hossain, a local from Teknaf said.

“They were arrested with Yaba tablets by Nasaka personnel at around 8: 00 pm. They have been identified as Mofizur Rahaman (32) and Shakir Ahamed (35) of Whaikong union under Teknaf police station, Bangladesh.”

According to sources, they crossed Bangladesh-Burma border from the entry point of Kunsibong village with temporary border pass of Teknaf Union and went to Maungdaw north.

Sources also said that they carried Taka nearly 100,000 to buy Yaba tablets. However, they were arrested by Nasaka personnel on secret information.

Zahid Hassan, Lt. Col. of Teknaf Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) battalion No. 42 confirmed that they were arrested by Nasaka and detained in the Nasaka camp for further investigation.

Nasaka has detained the arrested Yaba smugglers at Nasaka area No.3 Maungdaw Township till the writing the report. Their family members have been trying to release from the Nasaka by the cooperation of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), said a relative of the arrestees.

A trader from Teknaf who did not identify his name said that the flowing of Yaba tablets to Bangladesh from Burma will not stop until and unless the Burmese concerned authorities withdraw from involving in Yaba tablets trading.
