Teknaf, Bangladesh: The authorities concerned seized Yaba tablets worth Taka 100 million from Burma-Bangladesh border last year, according to official source from Teknaf.

Seized Yaba tablets in Burma-Bangladesh border

A concerned authority from Teknaf said that last year---from January to December--- police, BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh), (Rab) Rapid action battalion and Coast Guards jointly seized Yaba tablets worth Taka 100, 324,000 from Burma-Bangladesh border and arrested 220 people including drug traffickers and carriers last year.

Police personnel seized 40,000 Yaba tablets from border areas and arrested about 100 people including Yaba traders and carriers within last year, said Mahabbul Haque, the Officer- in- Charge (OC) of Teknaf police station.

Similarly BGB personnel seized 186,000 Yaba tablets and arrested 111 persons from Burma-Bangladesh border, according to Lt Col Zahid Hassan, the Commander of BGB 42 Battalion from Teknaf.

The Coast Guards of Teknaf, also seized 78,000 Yaba tablets and arrested 4 persons from border areas.

The RAB from Teknaf areas also seized 20,000 Yaba tablets and arrested 8 persons from Burma- Bangladesh border last year.

The Yaba tablets smuggling in border areas and the enter of Yaba tablets from Burma to Bangladesh are not stopped even the BGB, police, Rab and Coast Guards are red alert at border areas

In addition, on December 28, at about 9:00 am, the BGB personnel of 42 Battalion from Teknaf arrested two smugglers with 1.3 kg heroine from a passengers’ bus which was going to Teknaf from Comila-Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar. Lt Col Zahid Hassan of 42-BGB Battalion of Teknaf said that the heroine was carried from Comila of Bangladesh to Teknaf and will smuggle it to Burma.

It is very strange that Yaba tablets are being smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma and the heroine (powder) is being smuggled to Burma from Bangladesh. People from Bangladesh believe that this heroine is smuggled to Bangladesh from India. Possibly, it was produced in Afghanistan. But, they do not know, why it again is being smuggled to Burma, which is the second largest country in producing heroine after the Afghanistan in the world, said a trader from Teknaf preferring not to be named.
