One million Kyats extorted for gambling PDF Print E-mail

Maungdaw, Arakan State: The Maungdaw police arrested gamblers and took one million Kyats from them yesterday, said a local elder from Maungdaw.

On July 27 at about 3 pm, surveillance personnel of the Maungdaw police: Assistant Sub Inspector Aung Kyaw Than, Assistant Sub Inspector Shwe Maung and another police officer arrested a Arakanese Rakhine and three Arakanese Rohingya  while they were gambling in a house of quarter number three, Maungdaw, near Shweza bridge, the local said.

Police arrested Nyi Nyi Lwin from quarter number three, Abdul Jalil and Bulaila from Shweza village with another man from Myothugyi village, according to a police aide from Maungdaw.

The police raided the house where they were gambling, which was the house of Nyi Nyi Lwin and found a Bangladeshi mobile. The police took them to the police station in Maungdaw and filed a case of gambling, the aide said.

On July 28, at about 4 pm, police released four gamblers with a bill after taking one million kyats from them, the aide added.

The police also returned the Bangladeshi mobile to Nyi Nyi Lwin, which is illegal for Burma and fined a huge amount and a jail term.
