Journey From Durban to Geneva: The Lost Issues of Asia
Geneva, April 21, 2009
My name is Anwar Arkani and I am a Rohingya. I was born in Buthidaung of Arakan State of Burma and so were my parents, and my ancestors. But, with the promulgation of the 1982 citizenship Law, the Burmese regime stripped away our citizenship rights and rendered us stateless. I haven’t had a country to claim “mine” until I was resettled in Canada.
