Maungdaw, Burma:  Confiscation of arable farm land has become routine in Arakan State, Burma. More than 13.22 acres of farmland were seized from Rohingya villagers of Inn Din village, 10 miles south of Maungdaw town recently. The cultivable land was taken over on June 13 by Nasaka, Burma’s border security force to add to their lucrative business ventures.

Lately, Sarapa (the military Intelligence) personnel have been deployed in each and every Nasaka area in Maungdaw Township to look for reserve lands (Palat Mray in Burmese). The Sarapa finds such farms and informs the Dasaka (Regional Administration Headquarters) in Akyab. After receiving confirmation from the Dakasa the farms are seized by the Nasaka.

The Burmese authorities have been busy trying to figure out a new method of grabbing farms from Rohingya villagers. They have found a way of seizing the farms of Rohingya farmers, which is the “Palat Mray”

The Nasaka also seizes lawns belonging to Rohingya villagers and it becomes difficult for farmers to maintain their cattle farms.
