Buthidaung, Arakan State: A Rohingya was killed by a gang of unidentified assailants when he was sleeping in a farm hut near a forest on September 28 midnight, said a close relative on condition of anonymity.

The victim was identified as Iqbal Hussain (50), son of Mohamed Shafi from Kin Taung village of Buthidaung south, Arakan State. He was a brave man and once fought a tiger in the jungle and got the better of it though he seriously injured his hands.

On September 29, Iqbal's family members found his body covered with a blanket in the farm hut.

Igbal's relatives accompanied by villagers of Kin Taung informed the police in Buthidaung. The police brought the body to Buthidaung general hospital for autopsy. He was murdered by unknown miscreants.

After autopsy the body was handed over to his relatives. He was taken to his village and buried in the village cemetery.

No one has been arrested in connection with the killing.

A village elder said that occasionally soldiers accompanied by other people enter Rohingya homes to loot them at midnight on the excuse of checking family lists. So, villagers believe he was killed by soldiers when they saw him in the hut on their way to the barracks after looting a Rohinya Kin Taung.

Iqbal had a long standing enmity with the army as he complained about the army's brutality against Rohingya villagers. He was admired by all the villagers and had no enmity with villagers.

Later, police went to Kin Taung's village and asked villagers about the killing, but they did not get any proof.
