Buthidaung, Arakan State: In September alone 115 people were rendered homeless after fire gutted their homes in Buthidaung Township, said an officer from the fire brigade in the Township.

 

According to fire brigade records, a house was burnt down on September 25 at midnight rendering nine people homeless. The house was owned by Shafi (34) son of Abul Hasson, hailing from block No. 2, Buthidaung Town. He lost 150,000 Kyats and a case was filed against at the Buthidaung police station. Police arrested him and he is still in custody.

 

On September 19, at midnight, a house belonging to Mrs. Lallu daughter of Abdul Shukur (40) from Seindaung village of Buthidaung, was gutted by fire.

 

The fire started in the kitchen and the villagers tried to control it  but failed and the two-storeyed house was razed to the ground. The loss was estimated to be 3.05 million Kyats, said Mohamed Ali, a villager.  

 

Six people were rendered homeless and the father of Mrs. Lallu was summoned by the fire brigade in Buthidaung. He is in police custody of police.

 

On September 18, 25 houses were gutted by fire in Aung Thaya Model village (Natahla) and more than 100 people became homeless. Nobody was arrested or summoned by fire brigade, said a village Peace and Development Council member.
