Teknaf, Bangladesh: A flag meeting will be held tomorrow between Burma’s Border Security Force (Nasaka) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), according to a reliable source.

The meeting will discuss border trade, border security, robberies, murders committed across the border and cross border smuggling.

The two sides will discuss in detail about a small island, which recently surfaced on the Naff River, where the Burmese government raised their flag on said island. The river separates the two countries. There was a dispute between the two countries regarding the possession of the island.

This year, on the Burma side, particularly in Maungdaw Township of Arakan State, there were a spate of robberies and murders committed by unknown persons who had crossed the border.

The Burmese authorities feel that their dignity would be affected if they are unable to stop cross border murders and robberies. The Burmese authorities want to solve the problems with cooperation from the Bangladesh authorities, a source close to Nasaka said.
