An army officer, the head of Kyackpandu (Shitapurika) army camp, forcefully giving pressure a village admin officer to harass villagers to pay money - repaired houses during 2016, Mohin, a well-wisher of Rohingya community from Maungdaw.
The army officer summoned Syed Alam, the Khonzabill village admin officer, on July 14 and giving pressure to collect money from 18-house which the officer has lists of repaired houses during the 2016. The army officer demanded over one million kyats from the villagers. But, Syed Alam, the village admin officer said will try to pay 500,000 kyats, said Mohin , more said.
The village admin officer has collected from the villagers 40,000 to 50,000 Kyat, the villagers are facing very difficult to fulfill his demand, Nizam, a villager said.
Some victims are identified as Rabis Ahamed (35), son of Abdul Aziz, Enamullah (34), son of Saifullah and Mohmed Yayah (30), son of Ali Ahamed, hailed from Khonzabill village of Aley Than Kyaw village tract under Maungdaw Township, he further said.
Similarly, the head of army officer from Modina Para army camp, arrested Syed Alam, the Khonzabill village admin officer and kept in the army camp for not collected money from villagers – repaired the houses in the 2016 season- on June 10 and the village admin officer had given 10,000 kyats, after forcefully collecting from villagers, said Amin, a village elder from Maungdaw south.
The village admin officer and army personnel are harassing and pressuring the villagers to collect money which give the villages very hardship to pay money as per their demanded, Amin more added.
In northern Arakan, only Rohingyas are barred from house renovation and building new houses. But, if Rohingya able to pay money, the houses are able to renovate and to build through so called permission from Township administration office, said an officer from Maungdaw who denied to be named.
